The Town of Clifton Forge Planning & Community Development Department guides the growth and development of Clifton Forge to enhance quality of life, support economic vitality, and preserve the town’s unique character. We oversee land use planning, zoning administration, and community development initiatives while working closely with residents, businesses, and local leaders to implement the Town’s vision. Our work includes long-range planning, downtown revitalization, housing initiatives, and infrastructure improvements, ensuring that growth is sustainable, inclusive, and aligned with community needs.

Planning and Zoning
The planning and zoning division manages the Town’s Comprehensive Planning program and coordinates the Town’s plan review process. The division manages the Town’s zoning and subdivision ordinances. The planning and zoning division also provides staff support for the Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals Board, and the Architectural Review Board. Activities managed by this division include rezoning and special use permits review, assistance in site plan/subdivision plat review and evaluation, development and maintenance of the comprehensive plan, and other planning activities involving transportation, housing, and resource protection. This division is also responsible for enforcing the zoning ordinance.
